Reviews.

I recently went to see two films in the same genre and age range but they were both rather different. I went with two friends to the first one and three friends to the second, these are my reviews.

SMURFS.
Ok I will admit after watching the first Smurfs movie I did get my hopes up thinking the sequel would be better. If anyone has seen both these movies you will know what I mean and may even feel the same. If you've only seen the first, well I advise you only go to see the second if you've got a small child with you or else you won't really have a reason to stay... The first film was bearable, it was new and a bit different. Everybody expected big things from this movie because the Smurfs has been a family favourite for many years but personally I don't like to go to a cinema with high hopes. I was right to do that this time. The prequel is pretty similar to the first so I may as well dive in on my review of that.
Ok so let's set the scene. Rather like in the first movie the story starts off with a shot of happy Smurf village and then the story takes a darker turn as you are told that the evil wizard Gargamel is up to no good, again. I won't go into details, I don't want to spoil it for you but I will say a few things.
THE CHEESE FACTOR.
Yes, we all love a little bit of cheesiness in a film, that one character that makes you cringe because they are so cheesy. Usually that is a minor character, but in this film everything is cheese... I'm not talking about cheddar or wensleydale, I'm talking about the acting throughout this whole movie. It was unbearable. Everything was overacted, everything was exaggerated, it was... there are no words. Every joke that was made was lingered on so much that it took the comedy out of it. The worst overacting in this movie came from Gargamel (Hank Azaria). The costume was so overdone, the big nose was too much. I thought Hank Azaria was rather good in Mystery Men and Night at the Museum 2 but this film was not good to him...
PREDICTABILITY
This film was also too predictable... There were a few surprises along the way so it wasn't as predictable as the first one but it was still predictable...

Overall it wasn't the best movie in the world... I know it's a kids movie but oh come on! You could make it a whole lot better! Please don't be offended by anything I say, I really do hope that you know that I speak here for no one but myself, these are my own opinions and I hope you only take this only as constructive criticism.

MONSTER'S UNIVERSITY
Now this movie, was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. It was funny, smart, different, unexpected. Brilliant.
ACTING
The voice acting in this film was brilliant. Not exaggerated, not cheesy.
PREDICTABILITY
It was a little predictable but not just as bad as Smurfs and it was easier to bear because it wasn't so cheesy.
SOME DETAILS
It was so good because the humour was quick and smart and the characters were all so different and you love every one of them. I think it is an excellent film for people of all ages. It is brilliant for children because it isn't rude or violent. It's brilliant for older people because it isn't so childish and cheesy that you can't sit through it all.
SETTING THE SCENE
A young Mike Wazowski dreams of being a scarer after an exciting school trip to Monsters Inc. He plans to make it to Monster's University, and when he does he finds himself in the same class as the top scarer James (Sully) Sullivan. Through disagreements they slowly grow to dislike each other until an interesting event which brings them to have to work together with their team. A brilliant family film with comedy and much more, a must see.
